Why We Built This Site
Michigan offers several public access routes, but each answers a different question. The Houghton County Sheriff controls sheriff reports and local jail information. Court clerks maintain charges, events, and dispositions. Michigan State Police, Criminal Justice Information Center operates the statewide repository and ICHAT, while the Michigan Department of Corrections runs OTIS and MSP maintains the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. The site brings together verified contacts, official portals, known fees, and request steps for those separate offices.
What You Will Find Here
- Agency contacts: verified routes to the Houghton County Sheriff, court clerks, and statewide record systems
- Record guides: how to find and read a Houghton County court case file
- Official check steps: the differences between ICHAT name searches and authorized Live Scan fingerprint reviews
- Record relief: where Michigan application and automatic set-aside information comes from
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site with no connection to a Michigan court, sheriff, police department, or state agency. Its role has firm limits:
- It cannot issue a certified court file, rap sheet, or other official record
- It cannot submit a set-aside application, FOIA request, or court filing for a visitor
- It cannot run an official record review or repository search for anyone
- It cannot interpret a charge or provide legal advice about a particular case
- It cannot promise that an office has not changed a fee, hour, or procedure
Only the Sheriff, the correct court clerk, or Michigan State Police can issue or verify the record each office maintains.
Search Partners
Search boxes on some pages are supplied by outside providers that control their own services, prices, and results. A completed paid signup may produce a referral fee that supports site operation. This site does not decide what a partner charges, stores, or returns, so visitors should review that provider's terms before proceeding.
