Houghton County Sex Offender Checks
The Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry, or PSOR, is the main public source for Houghton County. Michigan State Police maintains it under the Sex Offenders Registration Act. The search is free, and a person can print profiles one page at a time. There is no bulk download. PSOR can be filtered by name, county, city, ZIP, street address, or a neighborhood radius.
The Houghton County Sheriff does not replace the statewide registry with a separate public list. Houghton County Offender Radius Maps
The Neighborhood Map accepts one or more address fields and a radius of .25, .50, 1, 2, or 5 miles. A street address can be paired with a city, county, or ZIP. Selecting Houghton as the county supports a broad county lookup, while an exact address and radius answer a narrower neighborhood question.
A radius is only a portal distance control. It is not a school zone, city boundary, or legal residency distance. The marker centers on the address entered. When a “Map Offender” control is gray, MSP says the address has not been mapped. That condition does not, by itself, mean the person failed to comply. Confirm urgent location concerns with law enforcement rather than inferring them from map display.

PSOR offers name, identifier, and location routes. First and last name are both required for a name search, though partial names are allowed. A registration number or MDOC number can replace a name. Review more than the name before attributing a profile because aliases and shared names can create a poor match.

Houghton County Registry Email Alerts
PSOR can send email notice when a published registrant moves, enrolls, or is employed within a selected radius. Choose Email Alerts, select a radius, enter the home and email addresses, accept the terms, and submit. MSP says a confirmation should arrive within 24 hours. The same email address may register more than one physical address.
Track Offender follows one published profile. It requires the email address twice and acceptance of the terms. Un-register removes that email from all registry alerts, so use it with care if several Houghton County addresses are enrolled. Alerts supplement a new PSOR search. They do not promise real-time notice of every registry change.
Registry Profiles: What They Show
A public Houghton County registry profile can connect a photograph and physical description to registration, address, offense, school, work, and vehicle information. Compliance flags can concern an address, campus, employment, verification, registration, false information, fee, form, ID, immigration document, professional license, phone, or vehicle. A flag must be read in its own context. It should not be converted into an unsupported claim about a new crime.
Reading Houghton Registry Status
“Homeless” and “Absconder” are not synonyms. Homeless is a published residence status. Absconder indicates a different registry condition. “Incarcerated” confirms custody but does not identify whether the setting is county, state, or another authorized facility without a separate corrections check. Pending Out of State and Inactive Out of State also describe different registry states.
If a Houghton County address appears wrong, use PSOR’s “Submit a Tip” control or contact the law-enforcement agency where the person actually resides. Residence, legal name, employment, or higher-education changes generally must be reported in person within three business days. Other changes have their own statutory methods and deadlines. Do not confront the registrant or anyone at the reported address.
Registration Levels and Duties in Michigan
Michigan assigns tiers by the qualifying offense. A tier is not an individualized prediction of future conduct. It controls how long registration lasts and how often verification occurs. For the judgment, sentence, or register of actions, contact the court of conviction. MSP’s registry FAQ directs a reader who knows the county to that court. If the county is unknown, ICHAT may help identify it within ICHAT’s own exclusions and fee. A sealed or set-aside conviction or an out-of-state case may not appear there. PSOR, ICHAT, and MiCOURT are not interchangeable copies.

PSOR information changes as reports are filed and processed. Send suspected violations to the law-enforcement agency where the person resides, or use the official tip control. Public access does not authorize threats, intimidation, vigilantism, or other unlawful conduct.
